Mousescrappers Project...What could it be...?

I love Disney and have spent much of my digiscrapping efforts recording our vacations to Orlando.
Mousescrappers is one of my favorite sites for inspiration when doing those layouts or when looking for that special element to make the layout perfect.

Recently, the moderators and organizers have been up to something secret. I can't wait to find out what it is. Here's the scoop so far and the link...just in case you're interested.

Project 52 Week 11

"Alligator pie, alligator pie, if I don't get some I think I'm gonna die..."

I can't remember who wrote these lines the the kid's poem, but I'll not read them again soon without thinking about today. This was Spirit Week at our school and included a great number of wonderful challenges and activites with students. Highlights included the Corvidae Rock Concert, Shave for the Brave with Mr. F's green hair, bowling, skating, pancake breakfast, trivia contest...and the list goes on.

On of the favorites, a fund raiser for the spirit council is "PIE THE TEACHER". The student members of the council sell tickets on the right to throw a cream pie into the face of a volunteer teacher. This year, I was chosen by a student and agreed to be "PIED"

Okay, I know it's coming...Let's just get it over with...

Oh what a hit! She sure had deadly aim...I am covered...

No doubt about it...gonna need a shower asap!

Went for a coffee with my brother this week. Spring is on its way, so we decided to head to the far side of the harbour to enjoy our coffee looking at the battery. It was a crisp and clear afternoon with a hint of spring in the air. Db doesn't usually let me take his photo, but on this day he agreed. Here we are, with a couple of shots of the Battery...I love this "CITY" hehehe

Hooray for getting away! This past weekend, I got to meet my dh in Ottawa for a winter break. It was much needed and greatly appreciated. My energy meter is back on full charge and I'm ready to keep going! Dd got to spend the weekend with Nanny and Poppy before they went south for the rest of the winter. Her meter now reads greatly spoiled.

This fountain in the Ottawa airport caught my eye as I arrived. it is a full wall fountain and is a lovely focal point in the arrivals area.

Project 52 Week 8

How's this for a burst of color on a frosty winter backdrop? The neighborhood kids love to make tunnels in the mountains of snow left by the snow plow. My dd just wants to hang out in the forts as they are created. The child in me recalls how much fun it was and how much warmer it was inside the tunnel, out of the wind. The Mom in me struggles with the constant fear that the roof will cave in. I don't think she shares my worries. So be it.

We hit a major milestone this week. Dd lost her very first tooth. It had been doing the wiggly almost out and could get stuck in food dance for several weeks, but finally gave in as she slept. She came out to me at 2:30 am and said "look Mommy, my tooth came out in my mouth". No stress, no blood, no worries.

Hope you are paying attention Tooth Fairy!

The awesomeness of a snowfall at night. So very often, at this time of year, we begin to complain about the snow, the need to shovel it, the way it makes the roads and walkways treacherous, the cold, the wet, etc... Every now and then, however, I catch a glimpse of the beauty of winter. This one caught me on my way home one night. We walk here frequently, when the weather is fine.

Saturated colors...

We were still in Quebec with the students when I took this shot of the Chateau Frontenac. I love the saturated green of the oxidized copper roof and the vibrant red of the Canadian flag. This is the lesser photographed side of the Chateau. It was taken near the plains of Abraham, just down the street from the American embassy. You can see that flag, as well, in this shot.

Using the self timer...

A gorilla pod and a self timer and you can pretty much take a photo anywhere! These folks are my teacher friends who helped me look after 35 grade 9 students as we all spent a week in Quebec City. They are some brave and humorous friends. Here we were attending a major/junior hockey game between the Quebec City Remparts and the Victoriaville Tigres. A first for some of our kids.

This week GP suggested we focus on the rule of thirds. I love candles, but almost never use them since we had dd. This is one of my favorite holders on a table I made myself, in front of a collage of dd's first year. The bottom tip of the hurricane and the lines in the collage frame made is fairly easy to find the sweet spot for the flame. A minute in lightroom and voilà, a photo I like.

This week I was playing with black and white. This beautiful belly belongs to my sister in law. She's due to deliver in about 5 weeks. We spent a couple of hours getting shots of her, her hubby and the bump soon to be a bouncing baby boy. I have many more, but this is my official selection for this week.

I miss my Nan a lot at this time of year. She loved any reason to celebrate and Christmas was no exception. She brought this battery operated, walking and jingling Santa to our house when we were young and I don't think we could have been more impressed if Santa himself came through the door. Needless to say, he still occupies a place of importance among the decorations at my Mom's house. Thanks for supper again tonight Mom!

Nan was truly awesome. Here is a video which shows some of what she was like. Socially outgoing, excellent dancer, talented story teller, skill full friend maker and fun filled. I made this shortly after she passed. I still watch it to bring her back to us.

I just love having some free time! Today, I followed the prompt at Gotta Pixel and the tutorial on making heart bokeh and made this awesome shot of my dd in front of our tree lights. It only took a couple of minutes to make the cardboard filter. I am infinitely pleased with the result.

Ever since I began dating my hubby, we have spent Boxing day evening with his family at Aunt B's. Tonight was no exception. Dd had great fun with her cousins and dh and I actually got to sit at the adults table. As we were leaving, it was noted how much dd looked like me in her coat and hat. I had to use that as my pic for the day.

Classroom door decorating is an annual tradition at my school. This year, students were given very specific materials and were required to use them all, no exceptions and no additions. My students were awesome, as usual. I really like the cotton ball Santa Beard, the personal ornaments and the toilet paper snowflakes. 7-7 est le BEST!

School pictures for this year have arrived. I always dread this "mugshot" tradition, but it is really cool to be able to look back over a career year by year. All said, this mugshot is not too bad. I definitely would not be sharing the years of big glasses nor the spiral perm...Oh my. Perhaps in another 10 years I'll be hiding this one too. For now, this is pretty much what I look like on a normal work day.

Today I participated in a mentorship development workshop as a new teacher mentor. One of the activities was to reflect upon how we felt as beginning teachers and to create an image of the new teacher as he/she may see themselves as they start out. This is just one of the amazing creatures created during the activity. Oh my...starting out is truly challenging! I wonder what kind of image the new teachers would have created for us?

When I think back to my own first experiences with a computer...Vic 10, Commodore 64 etc...I am truly amazed by the tech skills our young ones are picking up and by the speed at which they do it. Kids brains are truly awesome.

Concert de Noel at the École des Grands Vents. Dd and the other club du samedi kids were too cute for words as they did their recitals and sang their carols in French.

Rain, sun, freezing wind...we had it all today. Here we are at the downtown Santa Claus parade. We primed with hot chocolate and coffee at Auntie K's work and then took our spots outside to see the floats, bands, cheerleaders and, of course, the big guy himself at the end of the parade. It was a fun afternoon. My heart goes out to all the dancers and cheerleaders who must have been freezing, but kept smiling throughout. Hopefully they are all warm and toasty tonight.

Apparently, as the plane was heading toward the runway to take off, they realized they had an extra person on board. The extra passenger, a woman, had forgotten to get off when the plane landed in Halifax! They had to go back to the gate to let her deplane. Can you believe it?

Minga...Do you know what it means? Neither did we until our Phys. Ed. teacher met Craig Kielburger. We now have teams of kids in our school working hard to help those who have less in our community. Here our school TV broadcast team is interviewing Mr. Butler, the PE teacher spearheading this campaing. Way to go!

Craig Kielburger is certainly a person who is worthy of our respect and I'm thrilled that our themes, contents, physical education and social awareness efforts all come together naturally.

Halloween...what a night! Over the last week, we have seen Alice in Wonderland, Tinkerbell, varied princesses, but the winner on Halloween night was her Pirate Costume. Dd had great fun trick or treating and trying to fool the neighbors who could not recognize her right away. Two full bags of treats, sweet candies and chips and it was time to come home. I'm glad I just bought new toothbrushes for our family.

A special thanks to Nanny and Poppy H who brought her the cute treat bag from Disneyland on their recent trip to the West Coast states.

I might have know that the house would fall apart the day after my dh has an operation that rendered him practically imobile for a while! Fortunately, only one of our two cars was in the garage when the spring decided to break. Yup, that's it...completely snapped off from the axle. I am not physically able to lift the door as it is right now. Oh well, the good news is my sweetie is home to call the repair company as soon as they open on Monday.

The Halloween decorating continues. Dh loves the spooky fun of Halloween and now, so does our dd. This is one of the very first creepy purchases he made. It's a haunted tree house. The poor tree needed a village, apparently to best demonstrate all of his best qualities. Our collection also now includes fences from skeleton bones, a mad scientist's laboratory, a ghost mine and a mausoleum.

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go. I really do enjoy the teaching part of my job. In the classroom, with the kids, great interactions, unexpected moments of "I got it!" Wonderous! Correcting and activities that eat in to my home life and family time drag me down. I'm working very hard to keep those times a small as possible this year, but I have not figured out how to eliminated them entirely. UUURRRGHHHH!

Dd has been pestering her father for days to start putting up Halloween decorations. It has been mostly wet and cold this week. Tonight, as we got home, she said "Dad, it's not raining right now, can we do it now, you get the lights and we'll do it now". He could not resist. Halloween has officially begun.

These are a couple of tools that follow me whenever I have my point and shoot. The first is my Mickey lens cleaning cloth. The second best souvenir...right after the photos of the memories. The other is my newly discovered lenspen. It's a Canadian make product and works like a charm on water spots and on dust.

We had a press conference at school today to open our new basketball court and to celebrate the rejuvenation of the property in general. I couldn't resist getting a shot of these shoes. We have nearly 600 kids at our school. I bet I could shoot an equivalent number of similar, but NOT identical shoes on one day.
